Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (120g)
  • 1 tsp baking powder (4g)
  • 1/4 tsp salt (1.5g)
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar (25g)
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon (8g)
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted (57g)
  • 1/2 cup milk, whole or 2% (120 ml)
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (5 ml)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (100g) for coating
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon (4g) for coating
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (90g)
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream (60 ml)
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter (14g), optional for chocolate sauce

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, 2 tbsp granulated sugar, and 1 tbsp ground cinnamon.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk the melted butter, milk, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry mix, stirring with a spatula until just combined. Do not overmix; small lumps are okay.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, form small dough balls about 1 inch (2.5 cm) in diameter, yielding roughly 20-24 bites.
  6. Place the dough balls in the air fryer basket in a single layer, leaving space between each. Cook for 8-10 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
  7. While the bites cook, mix 1/2 cup granulated sugar with 2 tsp ground cinnamon in a shallow bowl.
  8. Immediately toss the warm churro bites in the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat.
  9. Heat heavy cream in a small saucepan over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Remove from heat, add chocolate chips and butter, and stir until smooth and glossy.
  10. Serve the churro bites warm with the chocolate sauce on the side for dipping.

Notes

Preheat the air fryer to ensure crispy bites. Avoid overcrowding the basket to prevent soggy bites. Toss bites in cinnamon sugar immediately while warm for best coating. Adjust chocolate sauce consistency by adding more cream or chocolate as needed. For dairy-free or gluten-free versions, swap ingredients accordingly.
