Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan with butter or non-stick spray and lightly dust with flour.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the vanilla cake mix, sour cream, eggs, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and cold water. Beat on medium speed for about 2 minutes until smooth and creamy.
  3. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pan and smooth the surface with a rubber spatula.
  4. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes. Check doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center; it should come out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
  5. Remove the cake from the oven and cool completely on a cooling rack, about 45 minutes.
  6. While the cake cools, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract with an electric mixer until soft peaks form (about 3-4 minutes).
  7. Spread the whipped cream evenly over the cooled cake.
