Ingredients

Scale
  • Bagels (plain, everything, or sesame; fresh and slightly toasted)
  • 6 oz smoked salmon (lox), thinly sliced
  • 8 oz softened cream cheese
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh dill
  • 1/2 cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 2 tablespoons capers
  • Fresh dill sprigs for garnish
  • 1 lemon, quartered
  • Freshly cracked black pepper
  • Optional: sliced avocado, radishes, olive oil, honey mustard

Instructions

  1. Slice bagels in half and toast lightly for 2-3 minutes until golden brown but still soft inside.
  2. In a small bowl, combine softened cream cheese with lemon zest and chopped dill; mix until smooth and creamy.
  3. Thinly slice cucumber, red onion, and halve cherry tomatoes; arrange on a platter.
  4. On a serving board, place toasted bagel halves, smoked salmon, cream cheese spread in a bowl, and prepared vegetables.
  5. Add small bowls for capers and lemon wedges.
  6. Sprinkle freshly cracked black pepper over cream cheese and salmon; garnish with fresh dill sprigs.
  7. Optionally drizzle olive oil over tomatoes or add sliced avocado.
  8. Serve immediately and encourage guests to build their own bagels with the fixings.

Notes

Keep cream cheese at room temperature for easier spreading. Use a plastic or non-serrated knife to slice smoked salmon to avoid tearing. Rinse capers if too salty. Toast bagels lightly to maintain chewiness and avoid sogginess. Assemble just before serving for best texture.
