A quick and easy chocolate chip cookie mix layered in a jar, perfect for gifting and convenient baking. This recipe offers a cozy, homemade feel without the last-minute baking stress.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (240 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup (150 g) packed brown sugar
  • ¼ cup (50 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 cup (180 g) chocolate chips (semi-sweet)
  • ½ cup (113 g) unsalted butter, softened (for baking)
  • 1 large egg, room temperature (for baking)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for baking)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your jars by cleaning and drying them thoroughly to avoid moisture and clumping.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Layer the ingredients in the jar in this order: brown sugar (press lightly), granulated sugar, chocolate chips, then the dry flour mixture. Pat down gently without packing tightly.
  4. Seal the jar tightly and add a label with baking instructions: ‘Add ½ cup softened butter, 1 large egg, and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Mix, scoop onto baking sheet, bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10-12 minutes.’
  5. Store the jar in a cool, dry place for up to 3 weeks. When ready to bake, mix the jar contents with wet ingredients and bake as directed.

Notes

Use room temperature butter and egg for best mixing results. Do not overmix dough to keep cookies tender and chewy. Fresh baking soda ensures proper rising. Chilling dough for 30 minutes before baking improves flavor and texture. Store jars in a cool, dry place to prevent clumping. Jars keep up to 3 weeks sealed at room temperature. Baked cookies keep 3-4 days at room temp or up to 3 months frozen.
