A warm and inviting apple cider bar setup featuring easy infused cider simmered with cinnamon sticks and whole spices, perfect for fall and winter gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 gallon (3.8 liters) fresh, unfiltered apple cider
  • 4 to 6 whole cinnamon sticks
  • 8 to 10 whole cloves
  • 4 to 6 allspice berries (optional)
  • 2-inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 large orange, sliced into rounds plus extra wedges for garnish
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons brown sugar or maple syrup (optional, to taste)
  • Bourbon, rum, or spiced liqueur (optional, for guests)
  • Cinnamon sticks for stirring
  • Fresh apple slices (Fuji or Honeycrisp) for garnish and nibbling

Instructions

  1. Rinse the orange and apples well. Slice the orange into rounds and set aside a few wedges for garnish. Peel and thinly slice the ginger. Measure out cinnamon sticks, cloves, and allspice berries.
  2. Pour 1 gallon (3.8 liters) of apple cider into a large stockpot or slow cooker. Add 4-6 cinnamon sticks, 8-10 whole cloves, 4-6 allspice berries, sliced ginger, and orange rounds.
  3. Heat the cider mixture over medium-low heat until it reaches a gentle simmer. Avoid boiling. Cover and simmer for 20 to 25 minutes, stirring occasionally to dissolve any brown sugar or maple syrup added.
  4. Taste the cider and adjust flavor by adding more sugar or an extra cinnamon stick if desired. If too strong, add plain apple juice or water to mellow.
  5. Optional: Strain the cider using a fine-mesh strainer to remove spices and orange slices for a smoother drink, or leave spices in for rustic look and stronger flavor.
  6. Set up the apple cider bar by arranging glass mugs, cinnamon stick stirrers, fresh apple slices, orange wedges, and optional boozy add-ins on a serving tray or table.
  7. Ladle the warm infused cider into mugs, garnish with apple slices or orange wedges, and add a cinnamon stick for stirring. Serve and enjoy.

Notes

Simmer gently to avoid bitterness. Let cider steep off heat for extra flavor if time allows. Use whole spices for clearer cider and easier removal. Keep cider warm on low heat or in slow cooker ‘warm’ setting. Store leftovers in fridge up to 5 days and reheat gently without boiling. Freeze cider in ice cube trays for longer storage or cocktails.
