A cozy, slightly spooky sangria made with fresh blackberries, blood orange juice, and a whisper of cinnamon. Perfect for Halloween parties or quiet autumn evenings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) dry red wine (e.g., Merlot, Zinfandel, or Tempranillo)
  • 1 cup fresh blackberries
  • 1 cup blood orange juice
  • 1/2 cup orange liqueur (e.g., triple sec or Cointreau)
  • 1 large orange, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 2 cups sparkling water or ginger ale
  • Ice cubes (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Muddle the blackberries: Place blackberries in a large pitcher. Gently press with a muddler or wooden spoon until they release juice but remain chunky.
  2. Add cinnamon and sweetener: Sprinkle cinnamon over berries, then add honey or maple syrup. Stir until dissolved.
  3. Pour in wine and liqueur: Slowly add red wine and orange liqueur. Stir gently to combine.
  4. Add citrus: Pour in blood orange juice and add orange slices. Press slices down gently.
  5. Chill: Cover pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (ideally 4-8 hours or overnight).
  6. Add fizz: Just before serving, gently stir in sparkling water or ginger ale.
  7. Serve: Fill glasses with ice, pour sangria over ice, and garnish with blackberries and orange slices.

Notes

For best flavor, chill overnight. Add sparkling water just before serving to retain fizz. Use a wine you enjoy drinking. Adjust sweetness to taste.
