A warm, spicy buffalo chicken dip baked inside a crusty rustic bread bowl, perfect for parties and cozy nights. This easy recipe combines creamy cheese, tender shredded chicken, and tangy buffalo sauce for a crowd-pleasing appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups shredded cooked chicken (about 280g), rotisserie or poached
  • 8 oz cream cheese (225g), softened to room temperature
  • ½ cup buffalo sauce (120ml), adjust for heat preference
  • ½ cup ranch dressing (120ml), homemade or store-bought
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (110g), sharp or mild
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (110g)
  • 2 stalks green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 large rustic round bread loaf (about 8 inches diameter), sourdough or country-style

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Slice off the top of the rustic bread loaf to create a lid. Carefully hollow out the inside, leaving about a 1-inch thick shell to hold the dip. Save the bread pieces for dipping later.
  3. In a medium bowl, combine softened cream cheese with buffalo sauce and ranch dressing. Stir until smooth and creamy.
  4. Stir in shredded cooked chicken, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well to distribute flavors evenly.
  5. Fold in shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses.
  6. Spoon the buffalo chicken dip mixture into the hollowed-out bread loaf, spreading evenly but not overstuffing.
  7. Sprinkle a little extra cheddar or mozzarella cheese on top for a golden, bubbly finish.
  8. Place the filled bread bowl on a baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the dip is hot and bubbly. The bread edges should be toasty and crisp.
  9. Remove from oven, sprinkle sliced green onions on top, and place the bread lid beside it. Serve immediately with the bread chunks or your favorite dippers.

Notes

Use room temperature cream cheese for smooth blending. Do not overfill the bread bowl to prevent overflow. Choose a dense sourdough or rustic country loaf to avoid sogginess. Shred chicken finely for even distribution. Bake uncovered to crisp bread edges and brown cheese. Leftover bread chunks can be toasted for extra crunch. Dip can be prepared ahead and refrigerated before baking.
