A cozy caramel apple sangria that tastes like a hug in a glass. This easy fall cocktail combines dry white wine, apple cider, caramel syrup, and cinnamon whiskey for a warm, sweet, and crowd-pleasing drink perfect for any autumn gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) dry white wine (Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc)
  • 1 cup apple cider (unfiltered preferred)
  • 1/2 cup caramel syrup (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/3 cup cinnamon whiskey (e.g., Fireball)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 medium Honeycrisp apples (or Fuji, Gala, Pink Lady)
  • 1 medium pear (Bosc or Bartlett)
  • 1/2 cup fresh cranberries (optional)
  • Caramel sauce (for garnish)
  • Cinnamon sticks (for garnish)
  • Fresh rosemary sprigs (optional, for garnish)
  • Extra apple slices (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Wash the apples, pear, and cranberries thoroughly. Core the apples and pear, then slice them into thin rounds or half-moons. Leave the skin on for color and texture. If using cranberries, rinse and set aside.
  2. For the caramel rim (optional): Pour a thin layer of caramel sauce onto a small dish. Dip the rim of each glass into the sauce, then let the excess drip off. Set glasses aside.
  3. In a large pitcher, pour the entire bottle of white wine. Add the apple cider, caramel syrup, cinnamon whiskey, and fresh lemon juice. Stir gently with a wooden spoon until the caramel syrup is fully dissolved.
  4. Gently drop the apple slices, pear slices, and cranberries into the pitcher. Do not stir too vigorously to avoid breaking the fruit.
  5. Cover the pitcher with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably 4 to 6 hours or overnight for best flavor.
  6. When ready to serve, give the pitcher a gentle stir. Fill caramel-rimmed glasses with ice. Pour the sangria over the ice, including some fruit in each glass. Garnish with a cinnamon stick, rosemary sprig, and extra caramel sauce if desired.
  7. Enjoy immediately. Best consumed within a few hours of serving, but flavors remain excellent for up to 24 hours.

Notes

For best results, let the sangria rest overnight. Use a dry white wine like Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc to balance sweetness. If you can’t find cinnamon whiskey, substitute regular whiskey plus 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon. For a non-alcoholic version, use sparkling apple cider and omit the whiskey, adding extra apple cider and cinnamon extract. Large ice cubes melt slower and prevent dilution. Toast cinnamon sticks in a dry skillet for 30 seconds per side to enhance aroma.
