A warm, spiced non-alcoholic punch made with apple cider, cinnamon, and citrus that’s perfect for baby showers and cozy gatherings. This easy recipe comes together in under 20 minutes and fills the room with a comforting aroma.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 cups (1.9 liters) apple cider
  • 1 cup (240 ml) orange juice
  • 45 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) honey
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 2-inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and sliced into thin rounds
  • 23 star anise pods (optional)
  • 1/2 cup fresh cranberries (for garnish)
  • 12 oranges, sliced (for garnish)
  • 1 apple, thinly sliced (for garnish)
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Prep your ingredients: Peel and slice the ginger into thin rounds. Slice one orange and one apple into thin rounds for garnish. Measure out your honey and set everything nearby.
  2. Combine the base liquids: Pour the apple cider and orange juice into a large pot. Turn the heat to medium-high and bring to a gentle simmer (small bubbles breaking the surface, not a rolling boil).
  3. Add the spices: Drop in the cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, sliced ginger, and star anise pods. Stir with a wooden spoon.
  4. Simmer low and slow: Reduce the heat to low and let the punch simmer for 15-20 minutes. Set a timer; the longer it simmers, the more intense the spice flavor becomes.
  5. Add the honey: After 15 minutes of simmering, stir in the honey until fully dissolved. Taste and adjust sweetness if desired.
  6. Add the nutmeg: Grate 1/4 teaspoon of fresh nutmeg directly into the pot. Stir and let simmer for another 2-3 minutes.
  7. Strain the punch: Place a fine mesh strainer over a punch bowl or pitcher. Carefully pour the hot punch through the strainer to remove all spice pieces.
  8. Add the garnishes: Float fresh cranberries, orange slices, and apple slices in the punch bowl.
  9. Serve immediately: Ladle the warm punch into cups or mugs. Garnish each cup with a fresh cinnamon stick if desired.

Notes

For a party, keep the punch warm in a slow cooker on the warm setting. Double the recipe for a crowd of 15 or more. If you accidentally add too much clove, add a splash of orange juice and a little more honey to balance. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days; reheat gently before serving.
