A creamy, chunky guacamole shaped like Frankenstein’s monster, perfect for Halloween or a cozy night in. Made with ripe avocados, fresh lime, and a secret blend of cumin and smoked paprika, this dip is as delicious as it is festive.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 large ripe avocados
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice (about 1 large lime)
  • 1/4 cup finely diced red onion
  • 1 medium Roma tomato, seeds removed and diced
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 small jalapeño, seeds removed and minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/8 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 2–3 black olives, sliced (for face)
  • 1 cherry tomato, halved (for nose)
  • Tortilla chips (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Prep your ingredients: Dice the red onion, tomato, and jalapeño. Chop the cilantro. Slice the olives and halve the cherry tomato for the face.
  2. Halve and scoop the avocados: Cut each avocado in half lengthwise, twist to separate, and remove the pit. Scoop the flesh into a mixing bowl.
  3. Mash the avocados: Mash half of the avocado pieces with a fork until mostly smooth, leaving the other half in chunks. Add the lime juice immediately to prevent browning.
  4. Add the mix-ins: Add the diced red onion, tomato, jalapeño, and cilantro to the bowl. Sprinkle in the salt, cumin, and smoked paprika. Stir gently to combine. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  5. Shape the monster: Scoop the guacamole onto a serving platter or shallow bowl. Use a spatula or the back of a spoon to shape it into a rough rectangle or oval (Frankenstein’s head). Smooth the top and sides.
  6. Create the face: Place two olive slices near the top for eyes. Add the cherry tomato half in the center for the nose. Use additional olive slices to create a stitched mouth. Optionally, add small olive pieces for bolts on the sides.
  7. Serve immediately: Arrange tortilla chips around the guacamole monster. Serve right away. If needed, press plastic wrap directly onto the surface and refrigerate for up to 1 hour.

Notes

For best results, use ripe avocados that yield to gentle pressure. Remove tomato seeds to prevent watery guacamole. If you don’t have cilantro, substitute with fresh parsley or mint. The guacamole is best served within an hour of making. To slow browning, press plastic wrap directly onto the surface or nestle an avocado pit in the center.
