Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds (900 grams) chicken wings, tips removed or whole
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • ¼ cup (85 grams) honey
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) rice vinegar
  • ¼ teaspoon chili flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) water
  • 1 teaspoon (5 grams) cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon cold water
  • Optional garnish: toasted sesame seeds
  • Optional garnish: thinly sliced green onions

Instructions

  1. Pat 2 pounds (900 grams) of chicken wings dry with paper towels. Toss wings in 1 tablespoon (15 ml) olive oil, then season with salt and black pepper to taste. Let sit for 5 minutes.
  2. In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, combine ¼ cup (85 grams) honey, 2 tablespoons (30 ml) soy sauce, 3 minced garlic cloves, 1 tablespoon (15 ml) rice vinegar, and ¼ teaspoon chili flakes. Stir frequently and gently simmer for 3-4 minutes until fragrant but not boiling.
  3. Mix 1 teaspoon (5 grams) cornstarch with 1 tablespoon (15 ml) cold water in a small bowl. Slowly whisk this slurry into the simmering glaze. Cook for another 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens to a sticky, syrupy consistency. Remove from heat and set aside.
  4. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (205°C). Arrange wings in a single layer in the basket, making sure they’re not crowded. Cook for 20-22 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the skin is golden and crispy and internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  5. Transfer the hot wings to a large bowl or pan. Pour the sticky honey garlic glaze over them and toss gently with tongs to coat evenly.
  6. Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and thinly sliced green onions if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

Dry wings thoroughly before air frying for best crispiness. Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to avoid steaming. Toss wings in glaze while hot to ensure sticky coating. Reheat wings at 350°F (175°C) for 2-3 minutes if they lose crispiness after glazing.
