Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package puff pastry sheets (about 17.3 oz or 490 g), thawed but still cold
  • 24 mini hot dogs or cocktail sausages (around 10 oz or 280 g)
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted
  • For the honey mustard dip: 1/4 cup mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard, 1 tablespoon honey
  • For the creamy cheese dip: 1/2 cup cream cheese (softened), 1/4 cup shredded sharp cheddar, 1 tablespoon sour cream, pinch of smoked paprika
  • For the spicy sriracha mayo: 1/4 cup mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon sriracha sauce, 1 teaspoon lime juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. On a lightly floured surface, gently roll out each puff pastry sheet to about 12×12 inches (30×30 cm).
  3. Cut each sheet into 24 small squares, about 2×2 inches (5×5 cm) each.
  4. Place one mini hot dog on each square, then fold the pastry edges over to encase it snugly. Pinch seams lightly to seal.
  5. Place the wrapped bites seam side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Brush each bite with beaten egg, then lightly brush melted butter on top.
  7. Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until the puff pastry is puffed and golden brown.
  8. While baking, prepare the dips: mix mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, and honey for the honey mustard dip; combine cream cheese, cheddar, sour cream, and smoked paprika for the cheese dip; blend mayonnaise, sriracha, and lime juice for the sriracha mayo.
  9. Let the baked bites rest for 5 minutes before serving.
  10. Arrange the mini hot dog puff pastry bites on a platter alongside the three dips and serve.

Notes

Keep the puff pastry cold while working to ensure it puffs properly. Do not overfill the pastry squares to avoid sogginess. Use an egg wash for a golden, glossy finish. If your oven runs hot, check the bites after 12 minutes to prevent overbrowning. For gluten-free option, use almond flour under the puff pastry. Reheat leftovers in a toaster oven or air fryer to maintain crispiness; avoid microwaving.
