These quick and easy pinwheel roll-ups combine crescent roll dough, ham, and a blend of cheddar and mozzarella cheeses for a perfect party snack that’s ready in under 20 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package crescent roll dough (about 8 oz / 226 g)
  • 68 oz (170–225 g) thinly sliced ham
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese (about 4 oz / 100 g)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (about 4 oz / 100 g)
  • 4 oz (115 g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water (egg wash)
  • Poppy seeds or sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, and black pepper. Stir until smooth.
  3. Unroll crescent roll dough onto a clean surface and press perforations together to form one solid rectangle about 10×14 inches.
  4. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a half-inch border on all sides.
  5. Layer ham slices evenly over the cream cheese spread.
  6. Sprinkle shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses evenly over the ham.
  7. Roll the dough tightly from the long edge into a log shape, keeping it snug but not too tight.
  8. Slice the log into 1-inch thick pinwheels using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, yielding about 12–14 pieces.
  9. Place pinwheels cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet, spaced about an inch apart.
  10. Brush tops with egg wash and sprinkle with poppy or sesame seeds if desired.
  11. Bake for 12–15 minutes until dough is golden brown and cheese is melted and bubbly.
  12. Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

If dough is sticky, chill for 10 minutes before spreading filling. Press edges gently after rolling to seal filling. Do not overfill to avoid sogginess. Let pinwheels rest 5 minutes after baking to set cheese. Pinwheels can be assembled ahead and refrigerated up to 24 hours before baking. For gluten-free or dairy-free versions, use appropriate substitutes.
