Quick and easy fruit kabobs that turn ordinary fruit into a fun, colorful snack kids love. Perfect for preschool snack time, playdates, and parties.

Ingredients

  • Red fruit: strawberries (hulled and halved), raspberries, or watermelon cubes
  • Orange fruit: mandarin orange segments (fresh or canned in juice, drained), cantaloupe cubes, or mango chunks
  • Yellow fruit: pineapple cubes, banana slices (tossed in lemon juice to prevent browning), or yellow melon
  • Green fruit: green grapes, honeydew melon cubes, or kiwi slices
  • Blue/purple fruit: blueberries, blackberries, or purple grapes
  • Optional: mini marshmallows, shredded coconut, honey or yogurt for dipping

Instructions

  1. Wash all fruit thoroughly under cool running water. Pat dry with a clean kitchen towel.
  2. Prep fruit: hull strawberries and cut in half; peel mandarins and separate into segments; cut pineapple into 1-inch chunks; leave green grapes whole; leave blueberries whole. Place each color in its own small bowl.
  3. Lay out skewers on a clean surface. Thread fruit onto skewers starting with red at the bottom, then orange, yellow, green, and blue/purple at the top. Leave a tiny gap between pieces for visibility and easy handling. Aim for 5-6 pieces per skewer.
  4. Check for safety: run fingers along each skewer to ensure no sharp points or splinters. For young children, consider removing skewers and serving fruit in rainbow rows on a plate.
  5. Arrange finished kabobs on a large serving platter in rows or a fan pattern. Serve immediately or refrigerate for up to 4 hours.

Notes

Keep fruit pieces uniform in size (about 1 inch) for even color distribution and easy eating. To prevent browning on bananas or apples, toss with lemon juice. Let kids help thread fruit for a fun activity. Don’t overload skewers—5-6 pieces is ideal. For toddlers, remove skewers and serve fruit in rainbow rows. Store leftovers in an airtight container with a paper towel for up to 24 hours. Freeze assembled kabobs for up to 2 months for a frozen treat.
