These firecracker hot dogs wrapped in flaky crescent rolls offer a perfect balance of buttery, flaky crust and a smoky, spicy seasoning that makes for an easy, crowd-pleasing snack or meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 regular-sized hot dogs (all-beef recommended, but chicken or plant-based options work)
  • 1 (8-ounce) can crescent roll dough (about 226 grams)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup (optional)
  • Sesame seeds (optional, for sprinkling)
  • Mustard or ketchup (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. In a small bowl, combine garlic powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, and onion powder. Mix well.
  3. Unroll the crescent dough onto a clean surface. Press the perforations together gently to form one solid sheet, then cut into 8 equal triangles.
  4. Brush each triangle lightly with melted butter, then sprinkle a pinch of the seasoning mix evenly over the buttered side.
  5. Place one hot dog at the wide end of each triangle and roll it up snugly towards the point, wrapping the dough completely around the hot dog.
  6. Arrange the wrapped hot dogs seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each.
  7. Brush the tops with remaining melted butter and sprinkle with sesame seeds if using.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until crescent rolls are golden brown and flaky.
  9. Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving with mustard or ketchup.

Notes

Press crescent roll seams together before cutting to prevent separation during baking. Brushing with melted butter ensures a golden, crispy crust. Use high-quality hot dogs for best flavor and texture. Check oven at 10 minutes to avoid burning. For extra crunch, broil for 30 seconds at the end but watch closely. Can prepare ahead and refrigerate on baking sheet, then bake fresh adding a few minutes to baking time. Freeze individually wrapped for up to 2 months.
