A crowd-pleasing Halloween punch that balances sweet and tart flavors with a spooky deep purple color. Perfect for parties, it’s easy to make with simple ingredients and can be served with or without alcohol.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups cranberry juice (unsweetened or regular)
  • 4 cups pineapple juice
  • 2 cups orange juice (preferably not from concentrate)
  • 1 cup apple juice
  • 4 cups ginger ale (Canada Dry or Schweppes recommended)
  • 2 cups lemon-lime soda (Sprite or 7-Up)
  • 2 cups dark rum (optional, e.g., Bacardi Black or Kraken)
  • 1 cup vodka (optional, any mid-range brand)
  • 2 cups frozen mixed berries (blueberries, raspberries, blackberries)
  • 1 cup frozen pineapple chunks
  • Ice ring or frozen juice hand (see instructions)
  • Fresh mint sprigs (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Make the frozen ice ring 4-6 hours ahead: Fill a bundt pan or ring mold halfway with water. Add a layer of frozen berries and pineapple chunks (and mint leaves if using). Freeze for 2 hours, then add more water to fill the mold completely and freeze for another 2-3 hours.
  2. Make the frozen hand (optional, overnight or 6+ hours ahead): Fill a clean rubber glove with water or a mix of water and cranberry juice. Tie the wrist closed and lay flat in the freezer. Freeze for at least 6 hours. To unmold, run the glove under warm water until it slides off.
  3. Mix the juices (5 minutes before serving): In a large pitcher or mixing container, combine cranberry juice, pineapple juice, orange juice, and apple juice. Stir gently. If using alcohol, stir in dark rum and vodka. This mixture can be refrigerated for up to 24 hours.
  4. Assemble the punch bowl right before serving: Pour the juice mixture into a large punch bowl. Gently add ginger ale and lemon-lime soda, pouring down the side to preserve carbonation. Stir once or twice gently. Add the frozen ice ring and frozen hand (if using). Toss in extra frozen berries or fruit.
  5. Serve and enjoy: Place a ladle in the bowl and let guests serve themselves into small cups. The punch stays cold for 2-3 hours. For longer parties, add ice cubes made from juice to avoid dilution.

Notes

For a non-alcoholic version, omit rum and vodka and add an extra cup of ginger ale and an extra cup of lemon-lime soda. For a lower-sugar version, use unsweetened cranberry juice and diet ginger ale. The juice mixture can be made 24 hours ahead; add carbonated drinks just before serving. Make extra ice rings for longer parties. Use a clear bowl to show off the deep purple color.
