spider web deviled eggs - featured image

A lighter, tangier twist on classic deviled eggs, featuring a creamy Greek yogurt filling and a dramatic spider web design made with black olive tapenade. Perfect for Halloween parties, this easy appetizer comes together in under 30 minutes and is naturally low-carb and gluten-free.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 large eggs, hard-boiled and peeled
  • 1/3 cup plain Greek yogurt (full-fat or 2%)
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon pickle brine or apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons black olive tapenade
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic glaze
  • Optional garnish: fresh chives or parsley, cut into tiny spider leg shapes

Instructions

  1. Hard-boil the eggs: Place eggs in a single layer in a pot, cover with cold water by 1 inch. Bring to a rolling boil over high heat, cover, turn off heat, and let sit for exactly 10 minutes. Transfer to an ice bath and cool for 5 minutes.
  2. Peel and halve the eggs: Gently crack and peel eggs, starting from the wider end. Rinse off any shell bits. Slice each egg lengthwise with a sharp knife, wiping the blade between cuts.
  3. Prepare the filling: Place yolks in a mixing bowl. Add Greek yogurt, Dijon mustard, pickle brine, salt, pepper, and smoked paprika. Mash with a fork until mostly smooth, then stir with a spatula until silky and uniform. Taste and adjust seasoning.
  4. Pipe the filling: Spoon filling into a piping bag or zip-top bag (snip off a corner). Pipe a generous swirl into each egg white half, without overfilling.
  5. Create the spider web design: Drizzle black olive tapenade in thin lines across the filling—start from the center and spiral outward, or make concentric circles and drag a toothpick through them from center to edge to create the web effect.
  6. Chill and serve: Arrange deviled eggs on a serving platter and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Serve cold.

Notes

Use older eggs (at least a week old) for easier peeling. Don’t skip the ice bath to prevent green rings on yolks. Practice the spider web drizzle on a plate first to get the right consistency. The filling can be made a day ahead and stored in an airtight container. For a vegan version, use silken tofu, vegan yogurt, and kala namak.
