A quick and easy summer mocktail combining juicy watermelon, fresh lime, and a spicy-salty chili salt rim for a refreshing and flavorful drink.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups (600 grams) fresh watermelon, cubed and deseeded if possible
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice (about 1 large lime)
  • 2 cups (480 ml) cold water
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons sugar or agave syrup
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • Ice cubes as needed

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chili salt rim by mixing 1 teaspoon chili powder and 1 teaspoon fine sea salt in a small shallow bowl.
  2. Run a fresh lime wedge around the rim of each glass, then dip the rims into the chili salt mixture. Set glasses aside.
  3. Cube about 4 cups (600 grams) of fresh watermelon, removing seeds if possible.
  4. In a blender, combine watermelon cubes, 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice, 1 to 2 tablespoons sugar or agave syrup, and 2 cups cold water. Blend on high until smooth, about 1 minute.
  5. Optional: Pour the blended mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a pitcher or bowl for a smoother texture.
  6. Taste and adjust sweetness or dilution by adding more sugar or water if desired, then blend briefly again.
  7. Fill the prepared glasses with ice cubes, pour the watermelon agua fresca mocktail over the ice, and garnish with a lime wedge or small watermelon slice. Serve immediately.

Notes

Let watermelon sit at room temperature for 10 minutes before blending to enhance sweetness and aroma. Use short blender pulses to avoid watery texture. Rim glasses just before serving to maintain chili salt crunch. Straining is optional but recommended for a smoother drink. Adjust chili powder amount to control spice level. Frozen watermelon can be used but may require sweetness adjustment.
