This spiked apple cider sangria is a light, refreshing fall cocktail made with crisp white wine, fresh apple cider, and warm spices. It’s perfect for gatherings and easy to customize.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups (946 ml) fresh apple cider
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) dry white wine (Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) apple brandy or Calvados (optional)
  • 2–3 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 2 medium apples (Honeycrisp or Fuji), thinly sliced
  • 1 large orange, sliced into thin rounds and quartered
  • 1 small lemon, sliced into thin rounds and quartered
  • 2–3 cinnamon sticks
  • 1-inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and thinly sliced
  • Sparkling water or ginger beer (for serving, optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash the apples, orange, and lemon. Cut apples into thin slices or small cubes (about 1/4-inch thick). Slice orange and lemon into thin rounds, then quarter each round. Place all fruit in a large pitcher.
  2. Add cinnamon sticks and sliced ginger to the pitcher.
  3. Using a wooden spoon or muddler, gently press down on the fruit and aromatics a few times to release juices and oils.
  4. Drizzle 2 tablespoons of honey or maple syrup over the fruit. Pour in the apple brandy and stir gently.
  5. Add the apple cider and white wine. Stir thoroughly to combine. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.
  6. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably 4-6 hours or overnight.
  7. When ready to serve, stir gently. Fill glasses about three-quarters full with sangria and fruit. Top each glass with a splash of sparkling water or ginger beer if desired. Garnish with a fresh cinnamon stick if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

Don’t skip the muddling step—it releases essential oils. Taste before chilling to adjust sweetness. Use a dry wine, not sweet. Let fruit soak overnight for best results. Don’t over-muddle the ginger. For non-alcoholic version, omit wine and brandy, replace with extra cider and sparkling water, and add a splash of apple cider vinegar.
