These crowd-pleasing caramel apple slices with toffee bits are easier to eat than traditional caramel apples, with perfect caramel coverage and crunchy toppings that actually stick. Ready in under 20 minutes, they’re the perfect fall dessert for gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large apples (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)
  • 1 package (14 ounces) soft caramel candies (e.g., Kraft Caramels)
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup toffee bits (e.g., Heath Bits ‘O Brickle)
  • ¼ cup chopped peanuts (optional)
  • ¼ cup mini chocolate chips (optional)
  • ¼ cup crushed graham crackers (optional)
  • Popsicle sticks or skewers

Instructions

  1. Wash and thoroughly dry the apples. Slice each apple into 8 equal wedges, cutting through the core. Remove seeds and tough core pieces from each wedge. Place slices on a parchment-lined baking sheet and pat dry again.
  2. Gently push a popsicle stick into the bottom (pointed end) of each apple slice, about halfway up. Insert at a slight angle for stability.
  3. Spread toffee bits, chopped peanuts, mini chocolate chips, and crushed graham crackers in separate shallow bowls.
  4. Unwrap caramel candies and place in a medium saucepan with heavy cream. Heat over medium-low heat, stirring constantly, until completely smooth (about 5 minutes). Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Working one slice at a time, hold by the popsicle stick and dip into warm caramel. Tilt the pan to coat evenly, then let excess drip back into the pan for about 5 seconds.
  6. Immediately press the caramel-coated side into your chosen topping. Work quickly as caramel sets fast.
  7. Place finished slices on parchment-lined baking sheet without touching. Let set at room temperature for 10-15 minutes until caramel is firm but still soft enough to bite.

Notes

Use room temperature apples to prevent caramel from seizing. Dry apples thoroughly before dipping. Work quickly once caramel is melted. For best results, make no more than 4-6 hours before serving. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
