This homemade version of the popular Starbucks drink is smooth, rich, and has that signature shaken froth. Made with simple ingredients and ready in under 5 minutes, it’s a budget-friendly way to enjoy your favorite coffee shop treat at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 shots (about 2 ounces) espresso
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (dark preferred)
  • 1 cup oat milk (barista-style recommended)
  • Ice cubes (large preferred)
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • Pinch of cinnamon (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Brew 2 shots of espresso (about 2 ounces total). Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. In a cocktail shaker or mason jar, combine the brown sugar and hot espresso. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  3. Fill the shaker or jar with ice cubes (about 5-6 large cubes).
  4. Secure the lid tightly and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds until frothy and slightly lighter in color.
  5. Fill a serving glass with fresh ice cubes.
  6. Strain the shaken espresso mixture into the glass, leaving the ice from the shaker behind.
  7. Slowly pour the oat milk over the back of a spoon to create layers (or simply pour it in).
  8. Stir gently to combine, or leave layers intact. Add a pinch of cinnamon on top if desired. Enjoy immediately.

Notes

For best results, use barista-style oat milk (like Oatly Barista Edition) for a creamier texture. Dissolve the brown sugar completely in hot espresso to avoid graininess. Use large ice cubes to prevent dilution. If you don’t have an espresso machine, use 2 teaspoons of instant espresso powder dissolved in 2 ounces of hot water. The recipe can be scaled for multiple servings, but shake each batch fresh for proper froth development.
